For newbies, can you tell us a little about the mountain biking instruction Bryce offers? SVTA: We understand the Bike Park has eight lift-accessed trails for beginner and advanced riders. JM: For November, it would be golf and the bike park. What do you feel is the most popular–especially in November? SVTA: You offer a great diversity of activities. (More details on membership may be found here.) You do not have to come with a member to partake in any of the activities. There are different membership levels you can purchase a basic package with access to the pool, Lake Laura and clubhouse and special discounts, or you can add on and purchase a golf package or ski package. The resort is member-owned and welcomes guests to enjoy everything we have to offer. It started with a small ski building and air strip and grew to its current 400 acres it now includes a ski resort, Lake Laura, a championship golf course, a bike park and many new buildings. JM: The Resort was opened in 1965 by the Bryce family. SVTA: Can you tell us a little about when and how Bryce Resort got started? We (SVTA) queried Bryce’s Jackie Moe to find out more about this multi-faceted facility. Excellent dining can be enjoyed at the Copper Kettle Restaurant. Choose from a state-of-the-art mountain bike park with white-knuckle downhills, ziplining, golf, water sports on Lake Laura, rock wall climbing, adventure racing or a full slate of skiing, snowboarding and tubing in season.Ī busy calendar of special events, summer camps, Euro-bungee, and disc golf, make up just some of the other action. Located in scenic Shenandoah County, Bryce Resort will unleash the adventure-seeker in you. In 2021 Bryce opened its terrain park named Thunder Jug.Google says that Bryce Resort is only a two-hour and 10-minute drive west of Washington, DC, but it’s a world away in every other sense. Additionally, there are two carpet lifts on the lower slopes to cater to beginners. The entire mountain is accessible from the quad, while the double terminates lower down, near the top of Bootlegger and Revenuer's Run. Mountain liftsīryce Resort has two lifts, including a quad-chair (installed in 2012) and a double-chair, which operates less frequently. The resort also features an airstrip with a 2,240-foot (683 m) runway, with the FAA identifier VG18. Summer activities include downhill mountain biking, ziplining down the slopes, golf, a driving range, a resort pool, and an artificial lake, named Lake Laura. While alpine skiing and snowboarding are the most popular winter activities, the resort also offers an 800-foot-long (244 m) snow tubing run and an ice skating ring. ![]() Bryce Resort boasts one of the largest ski racing teams, with over 60 racers, in the Southern Alpine Racing Association (SARA) league. Facilities and Activitiesįacilities at Bryce include the main lodge with the Copper Kettle restaurant, a cafeteria (only open during ski season) inside the Shenandoah Center, a full-service ski/bike rental and instruction operation, a ski shop and a golf shop. The resort was managed by brothers Horst and Manfred Locher until 1997 and is now managed by Ryan Locher. The 18-hole PGA Championship course offers challenges of trees and a creek that meanders throughout. Weather permitted, golf is played year-round. Due to the relatively temperate climate of northwestern Virginia, the resort relies considerably on artificial snowmaking, and was one of the first and only resorts in North America to introduce grass skiing during summer months though that activity is no longer supported. In December 2020 Bryce was rated one of the Top 25 family-friendly ski resorts in North America by Yelp. The ski area was opened as a year-round resort by Pete and Julie Brice in 1965, seeking to attract visitors drawn to the nearby Orkney Springs, and has been in operation ever since. Principal activities include skiing, golf, mountain activities, mountain biking, tennis, fishing, and water sports at Lake Laura and the resort pool. The resort is very popular with residents of the valley, as well as families and tourists from the Washington, D.C.
